STEVE MCCURRY (American, b. 1950)
McCurry is one of today's most celebrated photographers, recognized for his evocative color photography. He has been a member of Magnum since 1986. Born in Philadelphia, McCurry graduated cum laude from the College of Arts and Architecture at the Pennsylvania State University. He worked at a newspaper and then started making work in India. His photographs of rebel-controlled Afghanistan were published internationally as the first visuals of the conflict. McCurry's coverage won the Robert Capa Gold Medal; and since he has covered many areas of international and civil conflict, including Burma, Sri Lanka, Beirut, Cambodia, the Philippines, the Gulf War, the former Yugoslavia, and continuing coverage of Afghanistan and Tibet.
